Take care of your teeth
The need for healthy teeth can never be overemphasised. Even if you are already being commended for a white sparkling teeth, it is important and necessary to know the right things to do in order to maintain these healthy teeth and to prevent the onset of dental diseases. It is therefore crucial to always take the right steps daily towards maintaining healthy teeth. This includes choosing the right dental or oral health products and also maintaining healthy habits daily.
- Do not go to bed without brushing your teeth
It is normal practice to brush the teeth twice a day. Unfortunately more often than not we neglect the brushing of our teeth in the night. This practice has to be corrected.
It is a very good practice to brush at night in order to remove germs and plaques that may have been built up throughout the day.
- Brush properly
It is not so much the brushing itself as the way it is done. Not brushing properly or in the right way is just as good as not brushing at all. You should take your time to move your toothbrush in gentle circular motions. This is very effective in removing plaques and gems lurking in between the teeth and gums. When plaques are left for a long time, they harden and result in tartar or early gum disease known as gingivitis.
3.Do not neglect or ignore the tongue
Another place where the plaque can form is the tongue. This can cause bad breath and can also result in other dental health diseases. So, as a good practice, always brush your tongue whenever you brush your teeth.
- Always use fluoride toothpaste
Beyond bleaching power and fragrance, there is another very important point to look out for when choosing toothpaste. No matter the brand of toothpaste you go for, always ensure that it is fluoride rich.
Over the years the role of fluoride in other health areas have come into perspective. Nevertheless, its importance as the foundation of oral health cannot be overemphasised. Fluoride actively prevents and protects against cavities. It works in two ways, namely: it fights against germs that lead to decay and provide a protective barrier for the teeth.
- Take flossing as important as brushing
Oftentimes, people do not give flossing the needed attention it requires. “Flossing isn’t just about getting those little pieces of Chinese food or broccoli that might be stuck between your teeth”, opines Jonathan Schwartz,DDS. “It’s really a way to stimulate the gums, reduce plaques and help reduce inflammation in the gum area”.
Flossing even if just once a day can be very helpful in guaranteeing these benefits.
- Don’t give up because of flossing difficulties
Flossing can seem a great difficulty for children and elderly people with arthritis. Rather than give up, it is advised to look for ready-made dental flossers from pharmacies that could be of great assistance. These tools can really make the difference.
- Use mouthwash
Over the years producers and advertisers have tried to drive home the importance of mouthwashes for good dental health. Unfortunately, many do not know how they work. Mouthwashes can be of help in three ways, namely: they reduce the quantity of acid in the mouth, clean hard areas in and around the gums and remineralize the teeth. “Mouthwashes are useful as an auxiliary tool to help bring things into balance”, says Schwartz.”I think in children and the elderly, where the ability to brush and floss may not be perfect, a mouthwash can really be helpful”.
However, you should ask your dentist for proper recommendations. Certain brands are good for both children and those with sensitive teeth. There are prescriptions from mouthwashes.
- Drink more water
Water is life. Water has no overdose and should always be taken regularly. It is not only good for overall health,it is equally necessary for oral health. It is advised to always take water after every meal. This will help to wash away sticky foods and the sour part of food that gets stuck in between the gums and the teeth.
- Take lots of crispy fruits and vegetables
It is always very convenient and easy to get already made food. This is not always very healthy for the teeth. The consumption of fresh fruits and crispy vegetables is the best option for the teeth because it contains more healthy fibre which is good for the teeth.
So, have a good store room of fresh vegetables and fruits.
- Limit the intake of sugar and sour food
Sugar eventually becomes acid in the mouth. This acid is very corrosive to the enamel and destroys it. These acids are also capable of causing cavities in the mouth. Sour fruits, tea and coffee can also erode the enamel of the teeth. You do not necessarily have to avoid this product entirely but it is advised to check the quantity and intake of sugar and sour foods.
- Visit the dentist at least twice every year
